The 17th International Management Conference “ “Management beyond Crisis: Rethinking Business Performance” (IMC 2023)

 

During the period of November 2-3, 2023, the Faculty of Management within the Bucharest University of Economic Studies organized the 17th edition of the International Management Conference – IMC2023 titled “Management beyond Crisis: Rethinking Business Performance”.
This year’s edition was held in partnership with the Romanian Academic Society of Management and the “Constantin Angelescu” Institute of Advanced Interdisciplinary Research, under the Romanian Academy of Scientists. The conference sessions were conducted in a hybrid system and offered the more than 100 participants the opportunity to exchange ideas about innovative management tools, methods, and solutions that can ensure business performance in post-crisis periods (such as disasters, conflicts, pandemic situations, and others). The plenary sessions were presented by:

Lucian Claudiu ANGHEL – University Lecturer Ph.D. at SNSPA and member of the Board of Directors at TeraPlast, Romania;

Toru Takahashi – CEO of GLOBIS Europe BV and General Manager of GLOBIS Corporation, Japan;

Virgil STĂNESCU – President of Sports HUB Romania and Vice President of CEO Clubs, Romania.

The 16th International Management Conference “Management and Resilience Strategies for a Post-Pandemic Future” (2022)

The 16th International Management Conference held on November 3rd-4th, 2022 took place in a hybrid format (on-site and on-line attendance) and focused on the management strategies enabling the development and resilience of organizations in the post-pandemic period.

This edition reunited participants from universities (professors, researchers, PhD students) and representatives of the business environment from Romania and from abroad (United Kingdom, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria, Australia, Finland, Jordan, South Africa, Albania, Iceland).

Accepted papers were published in the Conference Proceedings (CD with ISSN) or in the journals of the Faculty of Management: Management and Economics ReviewReview of International Comparative Management, and Business Excellence and Management.

The conference was opened by four plenary presentations:

The 15th International Management Conference “Managing People and Organizations in a Global Crisis” (2021)

The 15th International Management Conference held on November 4th-5th, 2021 took place online and focused on the management strategies in the global pandemic crisis.
This year’s edition reunited participants from universities (professors, researchers, PhD students) and representatives of the business environment from Romania and from abroad (Czech Republic, Cambodia, Finland, Iran, Republic of Moldova, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Japan).
Accepted papers were published in the Conference Proceedings (CD with ISSN) or in the journals of the Faculty of Management: Management and Economics ReviewReview of International Comparative Management, and Business Excellence and Management.

The 14th International Management Conference “Managing Sustainable Organizations” (2020)

The 14th International Management Conference was held on November 5th-6th, 2020 took placed online and focused on the management strategies sustainable organizations. The 11th International Management Conference “The Role of Management in the Economic Paradigm of the XXIst Century” (2017)

The 11th edition of the International Management Conference focused on the Role of Management in the Economic Paradigm of the XXIst Century. Around 130 papers were presented during the event. As a general opinion participants underlined the importance of management and the great role managers and leaders play in the changing global context and in the economy of the XXIst century, how they should take every opportunity to learn and adapt to present and future challenges. In a rapidly changing economic environment facing crises and turbulences most of the times difficult to predict managers and leaders need to develop and adopt the habit of thinking strategically in order to ensure growth and sustainability. Discussions were held around the main topics of the conference, Business Administration, Project Management and Organizational Performance, Education, Knowledge Management and Innovation, Strategic Management, Change Management and Entrepreunership, HR Management, Organizational Culture and Leadership, Business Ethics, Philosophy of Management and Applied Social Sciences. The 10th International Management Conference “Challenges of Modern Management” (2016)

The debates of the 10th edition of IMC were carried on under the umbrella of the Challenges of Modern Management. Almost 100 participants from 7 countries put on the table for discussion their ideas, viewpoints and recommendations concerning the major demands modern managers need to deal with in today organisations. It is commonly accepted that the challenges faced by managers nowadays have taken a new level from those occurring years ago, that is a shift from staffing and controlling the activities to leading people and operations in a changing environment, where there is a focus on the development of technology, collaboration on a changing and competitive marketplace, the diversity of the workplace and increased responsability for the society and the environment on the long run. Therefore a need to introduce significant changes in the styles of management, in the approach of the organisational cultures and beliefs, in the strategic thinking of managers and leaders is requisite. Under these circumstances the opportunity to exchange opinions and propose topical recommendations was generally embraced. The 9th International Management Conference “Management and Innovation for Competitive Advantage” (2015)

Over 150 participants from the academic and business environment in Romania, Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey, India, Taiwan took part in IMC2015. They attended the conference to present their ideas, research results, observations, theoretical and practical proposals and debate the most innovative tools, policies and strategies for organisations to gain competitive advantage. The key aspects of the discussions were centred around innovation and broadening perspectives as critical ingredients in the way businesses perform in a global context where competition is fierce and change is the only constant. Innovation for competitive advantage was approached from different angles of the organisation and of the individual, such as leadership and strategic management, education and entrepreneurship, information and knowledge management, organizational culture and HR management, operations, supply chain and project management.   Like every year, the conference represented a platform to make new contacts and develop their personal scientific network for scientists and business people. Accepted papers were published in the Conference Proceedings (CD with ISSN) and sent for evaluation to the Conference Proceedings Citation Index by Thomson Reuters – ISI Proceedings. A number of selected papers were published in the journals of the Faculty of Management.

The 8th International Management Conference “Management Challenges for Sustainable Development” (2014)

This year’s edition of IMC – “Management Challenges for Sustainable Development” reunited over 150 participants in a forum for collaboration and exchange of ideas among leading researchers and practitioners in the business field aimed at discussing and identifying possible contributions and solutions to economic and social issues in the context of sustainable development. The management of companies and the leaders in key organisations of the economy face the pressure to make decisions, undertake actions and lead processes with an eye on organisations’ goals and economic growth but also with great responsability for current factors impacting society and the environment. The rising unemployment rates, the increased poverty, hunger and malnutrition, the crisis of resources at global level, the environmental changes that occured over the past century due to human intervention are just a part of the current major societal concerns. How should Governments, businesses and society design and implement policies to build a bridge between economic goals on one hand and social and environmental goals on the other and overcome the discrepancies? The main debate of the edition was focused on this aspect. Prestigious universities from Romania and from around the world, like the University at Buffalo (USA), Czech Technical University in Prague, Artois University, University of Latvia, University of Ruse, European University of Tirana were represented at the event. The conference was a great opportunity for researchers and representatives of the business arena to establish a community of specialists and to strengthen their relationship for future collaborations. The sessions of the conference focused on the following themes: Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management, Production, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Intellectual Property, Innovation and Knowledge Management, Organizational Culture, Business Ethics and HR Management, Investment and Project Management. The contributions of the participants of this edition, rigorously selected by a committee of peer reviewers and published in the conference proceedings or the journals of the faculty, was of great significance to the development of new business approaches and practices for sustainable development.

The 7th International Management Conference “New Management for the New Economy” (2013)

 
The 7th International Management Conference held on November 7-8, 2013 was organized by the Faculty of Management from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies in partnership with the Management Academic Society in Romania (SAMRO) and the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB). This year’s edition gathered over 100 participants from universities (professors, researchers, PhD students) and representatives of the business environment both from Romania and from abroad (University at Buffalo – USA, Universite d’Artois – France, University of Porto – Portugal, Corvinus University – Hungary, University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev” – Bulgaria, University of Akureyri – Iceland, University of Indonesia – Indonesia).  The changes that occurred in the past decades in the economy triggered the need for a change in business patterns and models as well as a change in management attitudes and behaviour from the traditional approach. A demand for greater flexibility from the part of businesses and organisations, greater accessibility to suppliers, the availability of an increased choice of products and services meeting high quality standards at competitive prices, to name a few prerequisites imposed by globalization and doing business in a global context, determined the need for a change of paradigm.  In this context, academicians and practitioners took the opportunity to share their knowledge, exchange ideas and discuss results of the conducted research in the attempt of finding new approaches, innovative methods, techniques and solutions to adapt to the challenges of the new economy, for businesses and society in general. Discussions were held during the five sessions of the conference: Economic History and Business Management in the Changing Global Scenario, Organisational Behaviour, Business Ethics and HR Revolution, Business Excellence, Strategy and Organisational Performance, Management of Knowledge, Information and Organisational Learning, Investment Management, Innovation and Sustainability.

The 6th International Management Conference “Approaches in Organisational Management” (2012)

At this edition of International Management Conference participants from the most prestigious Romanian universities in Business and Economics attended. Guest speakers from top universities in France, Bulgaria and Italy were part of the board of the conference sessions. Scholars, researchers and practitioners brought their contributions to debate the most up-to-date concerns regarding organisational management revolving around five themes that represented the five major sessions of the conference: Management of Romanian and International Organizations, Human Resources Policies and Strategies, Re-engineering and Economic Performance, Knowledge-based Organization and Management, Investment Management and Sustainability. More than 130 papers were presented during the sessions. The Conference Proceedings was submitted for the first time for evaluation to the Conference Proceedings Citation Index by Thomson Reuters – ISI Proceedings. Since 2012 a special session for PhD students was included in the Conference Programme.
